Morning routines and responsibility

Ages 6–8: a task-sorting game before the day begins

When morning requests pile up, everything can feel urgent. A sorting game helps a child see what comes first and what can wait.

What to focus on

Write today’s tasks on short cards: needed now, after school, or needs help. Keep it to five cards. The aim is to practise the next step, not carry adult responsibilities.

A practical family step

At day’s end, ask which card felt easiest and which needed help. Use the answer to simplify tomorrow.

When to seek extra support

If a situation involves risk to a child or others, or persistent distress the family cannot manage, speaking with a qualified professional can be an appropriate next step.
