Ages 6–12: a dinner question jar that opens conversation, not a test

Family conversation does not always have to begin with “How was your day?” One small specific question can open a safer space for sharing.

What to focus on

Write questions such as: What did you learn from an attempt that did not work? What made you laugh today? What small task can we help one another with? Adults answer too.

A practical family step

Draw one question on only two evenings this week. Stopping before everyone is tired protects the ritual.

When to seek extra support

If a situation involves risk to a child or others, or persistent distress the family cannot manage, speaking with a qualified professional can be an appropriate next step.
